GMDSS DISTRESS PROCEDURE for maritime VHF and MF

1. DISTRESS ALERT on VHF channel 70 or MF 2187,5 kHz:
• Press red DSC distress button and keep it pressed until the alert is initiated. (If time permits, select from DSC-menu)
2. Wait for DSC ACKNOWLEDGEMENT from a coast radio station.
3. Send DISTRESS MESSAGE on VHF channel 16 or MF 2182 kHz:
• MAYDAY
• MMSI-NUMBER, NAME and CALL SIGN
• Ships POSITION
• NATURE OF DISTRESS
• THE KIND OF ASSISTANCE REQUIRED
• ANY OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION
